RESEARCH GUIDELINES

Civil Partnership and Monitoring Marital Status

From 5th December 2005, same sex couples were allowed to form a legal union and register their partnership, much in the same way that opposite sex couples marry in a registry office. Whenever marital status is monitored, forms should be amended to include civil partnership when the law comes into effect on the 5th December 2005. See the section on monitoring in Good LGBT Practice. (Acrobat Reader pdf file)

Monitoring Sexual Orientation and Transgender Status

he Inclusion Project recommends that all studies monitor sexual orientation and transgender status when other equality and diversity factors, such as ethnicity, are being monitored. See the sections on monitoring in Good LGBT Practice and Getting it Right - LGBT Research Guidelines. (Acrobat Reader pdf file)

Getting it Right - LGBT Research Guidelines

The guidelines were developed through consultation with a wide variety of researchers experienced in investigating LGBT issues.

Aimed primarily at those working in the NHS, it may also be of interest to other researchers.
Feedback from all interested organisations or persons is welcomed, please see the document for contact details or use the Contact Us link.
